I am super excited! Today, Thursday March the 7th I will be on a flight headed for Madrid, Spain; I will be traveling with coaches and athletes who are part of the Team Ontario Beach Program. This is the first time the program has taken a group of both coaches and athletes to train outside of North America. I feel very fortunate and extremely excited to have the opportunity to attend!
So, what’s so special about Spain?
In Spain, about 4 hours South of Madrid there is a city called Lorca; in Lorca, there is an International Beach Volleyball Training Centre. The centre opened in 2015; it is home to Spain’s National Youth development program for beach volleyball. Male and female athletes, between the ages of 16 and 18 years old live at the centre: this is where they both attend school and train beach volleyball.
This is an exciting opportunity for me as a coach because, not only are we going there to train our athletes, but this trip is also designed to incorporate training and learning opportunities for us as coaches. We will have the opportunity to train with, learn from, and have discussions with coaches and athletes from both Spain and France.
I plan to take the time to journal about this incredible journey each day. I will do my best to take as many photos of my experiences each day as I can.
I will be sure to share with everyone at Scarlet Knights Volleyball!
I hope everyone has an incredible March Break!
